Misti Cordell Signs Taxpayer Protection Pledge

LAGOP-endorsed candidate for Louisiana's 5th District commits to opposing federal tax increases

MONROE, LA - Misti Cordell, the Republican Party of Louisiana’s endorsed candidate for Louisiana’s 5th Congressional District, announced today that she has signed Americans for Tax Reform’s Taxpayer Protection Pledge.

Cordell said the decision is about kitchen-table costs, not another Washington statement. Families across the 5th District are already paying more for groceries, gas, insurance, and healthcare, she said, and Congress should not make that squeeze worse.

“Families in our district need relief,” Cordell said. “Working people in Rural Louisiana are doing everything right and still struggling to keep up. Raising taxes on top of that is the last thing they need.”

The Taxpayer Protection Pledge asks U.S. House candidates to oppose efforts to increase marginal income tax rates for individuals and businesses and to oppose reductions or eliminations of deductions and credits unless matched dollar-for-dollar by further tax-rate reductions.

A small businesswoman with a career in healthcare, Cordell said her position comes from meeting a payroll and living with the same rising costs facing the district - not from a life in elected office.

“I know the difference between a talking point and a grocery bill,” Cordell said. “I will not vote for a tax increase. I will fight to lower costs, protect taxpayers, and remember who I work for.”

Cordell has centered her campaign on lowering costs for working families, strengthening rural healthcare, supporting Louisiana farmers and small businesses, improving education, securing the border, and defending conservative values. She has framed the race as a choice between a conservative outsider and career politicians.

“Career politicians have taken enough,” Cordell said. “Rural Louisiana needs someone who will keep more of their money in their pockets. I will be that fighter in Congress.”
